Dr. Chen’s journey began at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she completed her undergraduate studies in Biology and Chemistry. Eager to make a lasting impact in the field of eye care, she then pursued her doctorate in optometry at the New England College of Optometry. She received clinical training in ocular disease focusing on glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, as well as dry eye disease and hard-to-fit contact lenses.

Throughout her career, Dr. Chen has been particularly focused on the treatment of dry eye disease, an often-overlooked condition that can significantly affect one’s comfort and quality of life. She understands the frustration that comes with chronic dry eyes and offers a variety of advanced treatment options to address the condition, including punctal plugs, intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, low-level light therapy (LLLT), prescription medications, and more, all tailored to meet the specific needs of her patients.
Dr. Chen believes that everyone deserves clear, comfortable vision, and wants her patients to experience just that. Whether managing dry eye disease, prescribing corrective lenses, or offering general eye health guidance, she is driven by the desire to enhance her patients’ visual health and overall well-being.
She has spent time volunteering in the Dominican Republic, helping with free eye exams and distributing free eye wear to those with limited access to eye care. An active member of the optometry community, Dr. Chen has served on the Board of Trustees for the Northern Virginia Optometric Society for the past eight years and is now a past-President of the NVOS. She is committed to staying at the forefront of eye care advancements through involvement in professional groups.
A fun fact about Dr. Chen: She was born and raised in the same town as where the finish line to the Iditarod dog sled race is - Nome, Alaska. When not caring for her patients, Dr. Chen enjoys cooking and baking for her two young sons and spending time with her miniature schnauzer and shih tzu pups.
Dr. Chen is fluent in Vietnamese, and can also complete eye examinations in Spanish.
